A Pet's 10 Commandments

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Separation from you is going to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want from me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, I have only YOU.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I DO understand your voice and tone when you speak to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and YET, I choose NOT to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the proper food, I have been in the sun too long, I am in pain, or my heart might be getting old and weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me PLEASE. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so!

Be Thankful for your pets. Enjoy them and take good care of them.

All our donations go directly for veterinary care, heartworm preventative, flea and tick products such as Frontline, purchases of dog food and when available, toys, collars, leashes and treats. We have no expenses for salaries or utilities. If you would like to make a difference for a homeless puppy or dog and cannot adopt or foster, a financial contribution can really be a big help for our group. You can contribute in several ways: mail in your donation, donate items in need, volunteer, foster or you can choose to help support a particular dog in our program.

Did you know? Only 1 out of EVERY 10 Dogs in the U.S. ever has a permanent home? There are not enough homes! Please Spay or Neuter your animals today

If you are a dog or cat lover here’s a statistic that will make you sick.
12,000 adoptable animals were killed at the city shelter last year because there aren’t enough good homes and way too many puppies and kittens being born.

Public awareness of the crisis is getting more attention and old fashioned attitudes are changing but we still have a lot of work to cut the kill rate and make Austin a better place for our animal friends. Pet overpopulation is a community wide problem and it is the community that must work together to stop the killing. The answer is to spay and neuter your pet and Austin has excellent and inexpensive resources to get the job done.

Where can you get low cost spays and neuters?

Emancipet operates a stationary clinic at 7201 Levander Loop and a mobile clinic at various locations in East Austin, 512-587-SPAY emancipet.org
Animal Trustees of Austin performs surgeries at 5129 Cameron Rd  512-450-0111 animaltrustees.org (pictured right).
